However, there is something else nearby the central walking streets of downtown Perth. Four to five brothels operate 24/7 attracting tourists and locals alike. Each brothel houses girls from various ethnic backgrounds. When visiting one brothel with just Australian girls, the madam on duty told me that the brothel down the street has only Asian girls. Variety has become a commodity in the prostitution business.
I was was specifically searching for the Slavic girls. I was hoping to meet one and ask her if she was wanting to go home. The life of a prostitute is lonely and dangerous. Most Slavic girls found in prostitution parlors are not there on their own will. Since the demand for Eastern European girls is growing worldwide, Slavic girls are being targeted more and more. Twisted schemes full of lies and deception are used to lure the girls into a so called life of money and leisure. In reality, it’s slavery that awaits them. They are trapped. They are broken. They are lost.
I did not find any Slavic girls that night but I do know that Eastern European girls are being trafficked throughout Australia. This Perth neighborhood of brothels, so open to the public, may not have been harboring trafficked girls. In many cases, the girls who are made slaves are often trapped in underground brothels or secure apartments that act like prisons. Girls are brought in but they don’t get out. This is slavery to it’s extreme. Girls are treated like animals, served 1 meal a day and are given poor medical attention. The abuse here is multiplied until they are completely broken and therefor easily exploited.
Human trafficking can be stopped. Awareness programs throughout the Slavic world are key to educating young women about the trappings of the modern day slave trade.
Australia, a long way from Eastern Europe, is just one of many western nations harboring trafficked girls.
